I tend to have groundhogs roaming my backyard occasionally, which a real treat. I drew back the curtains from the sliding down window this morning when I saw the plump form of the furry ground squirrel just a few feet away from me, its back turned to me. I knew I had to record this moment now that I have a phone.

The groundhogs had been randomly popping up for years, seldom seen, and I always stop what I'm doing to watch them graze and to make sure the neighbor's cat doesn't harm them. Usually there's one, but a few years a groundhog had her baby following her around. My family named the mother Gorda and I called the baby Pooka. We had a garden at the time and she would smack her pup whenever he gets too close to it (possibly because of human scent.) They were well behaved and respectful of our floral, much to my mom's delight.

This year a lone baby was spotted munching on my yard, which worried me greatly because of the cat. Thankfully it appeared days later with its mom. Cute little things.

They look like chubby guinea pigs in a way.

Its a pleasure watching these creatures and their behaviour. They are fun to see and I always get excited when I see one.

Hope you enjoy.
