A Grid Aalto AR Corner Animation: 2nd LIFE
3Step into the world of pixel art and retro gaming with me as I unveil the captivating animation for the "2nd Life" mural, produced in 2020 as part of the Aalto Project at Aalto University ( A Grid) campus in Finland. In 2019, I created three digital mural artworks, which were expertly printed and installed by FinStudio Systems OY under the supervision of Sebastian Sandelin, CEO of Sisätila Design & Interior Architecture.
The "2nd Life" mural serves as the foundation for an animated storyline, divided into six scenes reminiscent of a classic video game boss battle. Each scene is carefully crafted to enrich and clarify the narrative, bringing the pixel art to life in a dynamic and engaging way.
Preparatory work involved optimizing pixel art sprites, meticulously created frame-by-frame animations in Photoshop, and exporting them into After Effects for seamless integration. By replicating smooth in-game player movement, I ensured an immersive experience that captures the essence of classic video game animations.
To maintain authenticity, all character states were confined to a specific number of frames, reminiscent of old video game animations. This approach not only adds nostalgia but also contributes to the overall aesthetic of the mural animation.
