Beyond Sunset is a surprising mix of neo-retro shooter action with light RPG and immersive sim elements. There's a good-sized set of maps to freely walk between, each having its own atmosphere, objectives, and methods to traverse them. Combat usually involves large groups teleported in to face you, guns feel pretty satisfying and have limited ammo to keep you moving, and your katana can deflect bullets and do executions to regain health. The music and atmosphere are great, and there's a solid variety of side content, optional areas, upgrades, and weapons to purchase. It's a good start to a game that looks like it will spend its time in Early Access very well.
