An opened lid JVC VHS VCR will not successfully play back a video cassette tape, rather, when the power button is pressed, the video cassette recorder will seem to play the video cassette tape back at a high speed automatically for a few seconds, despite showing no output on the television display screen and despite not responding to any commands or any pressed buttons. This is due to the fact that the JVC VHS VCR, with lid opened, is going through a power-on self test diagnostic mode, and will only operate properly with the housing cover in place (with the unit completely closed up).
