A MAZE. Train Jam 2021 (VR)
After three amazing experiences at the A MAZE. Train Jams in South Africa 2018 to 2020 we are excited to invite you into the hyper hybrid dimension. Usually, we take Gauteng based developers and international game and VR developers on the legendary Shosholoza Meyl Train from Johannesburg to Cape Town. On that ride, we make games and the results get exhibited at Playtopia MGA. But since 2020 due to COVID-19, our program has changed and last year we jammed in VRChat and during that process created the incredible A MAZE. Train Station. Due to the SA regulations and the current situation, a physical game jam on a train is still too precarious.
As you may already be aware, we unfortunately have had new developments in South Africa regarding a COVID variant which has resulted in some restrictions, this has impacted our upcoming 4th A MAZE. Train Jam in terms of physically hosting the event at Goethe-Institut Johannesburg. We have had to consider the safety of our jammers and participants and have made a few changes.
In light of this, we are happy to announce that the event will proceed as initially planned with the only difference being that it will be fully digital. Yes, we will be hosting this year's 4th A MAZE. Train Jam for all game makers online via Discord and for all worldbuilders in the A MAZE. Train Station on VRChat.
The event will still run from the 3rd to the 5th of December and will take place online and virtual. You decide what you like to create: a game or a world in VRChat.
The theme of this year train jam is "Let's Game Jam Art". We've invited 5 South African visual artists to choose one of their works to give them into our inspiration pool. These five artworks with their individual concept and narrative will be the base of your games. Create a narrative around the selected artworks and connect them to a game.
Dates of the 48hrs train jam:
Start: December 03 - 17:00 (GMT+2)
End: December 05 - 17:00 (GMT+2)
Presentation: December 05 - 19:00 (GMT+2)
The A MAZE. Train Jam in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Johannesburg welcomes Subsaharan African and international game makers. Partner event this year is Africa Games Week.
