It's undeniable that Nintendo 64 is one of Nintendo's most important systems. Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time laid the foundation for so many games which followed them, both from Nintendo and beyond. Equally important are the many multiplayer games which defined the system's library beyond its key single-player adventures, establishing Nintendo's position as the king of couch competition.

But, it's likewise undeniable that the N64 is an aged system, undoubtedly encumbered by the weight of its early 3D provenance. We may love Mario Kart 64 or Super Smash Bros., but time has moved on without many of the games which were so foundational, improving upon them with markedly better sequels which leave these seminal games feeling like clunky curios.

Growing up after the N64 released allows us the unique opportunity to put this historical significance, waning technical fidelity, and our unique personal journeys with the library in conversation. One of us loves N64, the other is more skeptical of it.

Join us as we explore the past, present, and future of Nintendo 64.
