A or B testing does not tell you WHY people make decisions Find out what you should do instead.
A/B testing is a common practice in the software industry for discovering which design customers prefer. A/B tests are easy and fast to set up, and when you are refining a mature design they can be useful. But the truth is that an A/B test tells you only that people prefer one design over another...it doesn't explain WHY people prefer one design over the other, and it doesn't mean that EITHER design is any good.
When you are innovating and bringing a new idea to life, there's a better way to go. Instead of collecting large sample of data with a simple A/B test, do a small number of in-depth studies around more carefully thought-out designed experiments.
