A Paragraph That Resonated with Me from "Stranger in the Shogun’s City" by Amy Stanley
Visual Description: A woman addresses the camera. She has brown hair worn loose, a bit damp and unbrushed. She's dressed in a seafoam green nightgown with a red and white striped pajama top worn as a jacket for added warmth. There's a bedroom with light blue walls and a metal bed frame in the background.
Description: I remembered I recorded this after posting my video "My Thoughts on "Stranger in the Shogun's City" by Amy Stanley" which can be found here: • My Thoughts on "Stranger in the Shogu... So I decided to go ahead and post it. There was a paragraph in chapter 6 of "Stranger in the Shogun's City" that resonated with me. When I don't have the words or vocabulary to describe a concept, it can be difficult to articulate my thoughts and experiences with it. It's harder to call out an injustice when there is not a word to call that injustice. Women throughout time have faced sexism, misogyny, and been oppressed by the patriarchy, but not always had words like "feminism" to advocate for liberation with. So I thought that this paragraph by Amy Stanley captured a struggle that women throughout history have faced, and which is still relevant to marginalized populations to this day.
