Unknown to the others, Hugo overhears news of his mother; that she is alive and being held prisoner in the Bastion. When Amicia returns with the elixir, yet still refuses to tell him the truth, Hugo takes off while the others sleep.
He agrees to the Inquisition’s demands, believing he will be allowed to see his mother in return, but when the Magister leaves with a vial of his blood, Hugo sneaks through the Bastion to search for her in the basement.
