Lizard is a game that was built for the NES, and also gets a PC release. It's strictly purpose-built and evokes memories of the hard-ass difficult challenging games that were previously made for the platform.

You die in one hit, there's various checkpoints widely spread apart, and this game functions as a metroidvania-esque game - but the key function of this game are the various lizards you can control. There are 6 scattered throughout the zones where you will gain some special innate ability through switching. The soundtrack is also based upon a theme; you can hear the overarching theme in each song.

Honestly my largest bugbear with this game is that the platforming is way too slippery. I'd over-jump to my death far too many times in this video because I keep jumping a bit farther than I would have liked; the controls don't feel entirely tight.
