released as a dlc for bioshock 2 but it's a separate story to play through entirely. it made me think, it made me emotional, it's the best.
the splatoon music is even more unfitting now because there's no plot similarity anymore
best i could come up with is that marina is kinda similar to charles milton porter (black engineer, resident of underwater civilisation, with war trauma and a wife named pearl, properly introduced in the expansion of the second game)
anyway i think this game might have inspired that red dwarf episode from 2012 i like so much, Fathers and Suns (the one where lister gets drunk and records a father's day message for himself that he won't remember the next day so it'll be a surprise to him, since he's his own father)
this game sort of asks a question about what the self is, since you're subject sigma (charles milton porter without his memories), and you're guided by the thinker (a 1960s chatGPT that perfectly emulates charles milton porter). sigma is porter but doesn't remember porter or identify as him. the thinker isn't porter but learned to become him to help sigma remember who he was. depending on your point of view, sigma is porter, the thinker is porter, both of them are porter and/or neither of them are porter. a human ship of theseus.
