Fans and experts have been investigating, and they’ve come to the conclusion that the most recent gameplay footage from Breath of the Wild 2 almost certainly couldn’t have been running on or captured using a stock Nintendo Switch.

First are these really awesome volumetric clouds.
Next is the perfect antialiasing.
Both are things that, according to expert opinion, are too advanced for the Switch’s processing power.
Finally, and this is maybe the weakest evidence, but the footage is 1080p. Whereas the original Breath of the Wild ran at 900p.
Now, you could say, “They just rendered out this trailer at a higher resolution and with higher settings."
But Nintendo doesn’t really do that. What you see in the trailers is usually what you get.
This has led many to believe that, in 2023, alongside Breath of the Wild 2, Nintendo is planning to release new, more powerful hardware.
Now whether that’s a Switch Pro, or just an updated dock is up for debate. What do you think?
If you’d like to hear more about this conspiracy, I’ll leave a link below to this week's Game & Gig podcast, which is completely dedicated to this topic.
