We will examine the past, present, and future of transgender representation in games, and the unique opportunity games provide to foster empathy and acceptance for transgender people. Until very recently, gaming (like other media) only included inauthentic and disparaging representations of trans and gender nonconforming characters. Today, change is happening as we see games working with the trans community to create more authentic and compelling characters.
