Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War - Misc test #01
Best viewed at 60fps.
I have been doing some research on how the game handles the NPCs' AI and after analyzing some of the files that are related to an entity (the game's engine keeps all the necessary information packed in a self-contained file in order to enable the entity during gameplay) I was able to locate the file in charge of controlling an aircraft (be it allied or enemy) flight pattern/AI. Since I started modding the "Holy Trinity" of the Ace Combat games, one of my objectives was to see if it was possible to improve the enemy AI. Even in the ACE difficulty setting the games are piss easy, so I hoped I could edit the files related to the enemy behavior to make them more difficult to fight (and satisfy that m̶a̶s̶o̶c̶h̶i̶s̶t̶i̶c̶ challenge seeking side of me.)
Another thing that I found while I was analyzing the NPCs' AI files is that it is also possible to change some of the special countermeasures that only a few select aircraft/units can use and add them to the rest of the entities present in the game. These countermeasures are: flares (used by the Hornet and the F-16XL), radar jamming (used by some E-767s, ground units and the Prowler unit in the Schnee gang), stealth (Wizard's YF-23s and some special named aces) and the ECM used by Pixy's Morgan in the final phase of ZERO.
In this video I'm facing the Galm Team, but with the AI pattern of Mobius 1 (extracted from The Gauntlet's mission data). Actually, the Galm Team are just Wizard units with their ID strings changed to reflect Galm's members callsigns and equipment they use (including model swaps) and their behavior/flight pattern replaced with Mobius 1's. To add to the challenge, Cipher's F-15C was given the ability to go stealth, PJ's F-16C will carry a radar jammer and Pixy should be able to release flares, but in this video he fails to do that. I'm still trying to figure the mechanism behind the flare release since it doesn't work all of the time.
This a "low-effort" video so I didn't bother in adding the squadron text for Galm's entrance sequence and the music used might be a bit too "weeabooish" and unfitting, especially if facing one of the most lethal squadrons in Strangereal's lore. Saitama Saishuu Heiki (also known as S.H.H) is one of my favorite music composers and I always wanted to feature his work in at least one of my videos. Also Mobius' AI makes the enemy pull some bullshit moves when being chased and/or tracked down by missiles so the fight will drag for a bit, especially in the last minutes of the video.
A huge thanks to BelkanLoyalist (BelkanLoyalist@Twitter) for his -FIRE WING- livery for the F-15C.
