Aces Wild: Manic Brawling Action! Game Sample - PC/Indie
Quiet Island is an ancient land full of warriors (mostly ninjas) where the Wilder clan is at the top of the food chain. Every 15 years, they hold a massive battle royale (the Maximus Circuit) where the last fighter standing is awarded a large cash sum and the rights to the Wilder's land. Of course, no one has been able to dethrone the Wilder clan; they have won for the last 500 years, but the shift in power is being threatened. Rex, one of the two Wilder clan heirs is plotting to use his immense power to win the circuit and then sell the land to Ruter Corp and split the money with any entrants willing to take a dive. Of course, the other heir, Ace, won't allow their name to be tainted or their land to be given away -- anybody who wants it is going to have to earn it and take it by force! As the favored successor of the Wilder clan, Ace is going to blaze the circuit like a true maniac!
Maniac? Manic? Either way, one thing is certain: this game is a blazing fast adrenaline rush where twitch controls and split-second decisions really go the distance as enemies' attack patterns evolve to your fever pitch (the "Wild" system). Aces Wild is a easy to learn, hard to master free-form action game where you button mash your way through waves of adversaries and make your way to the bosses at the end. It's silly. It's crazy. It's really repetitive. It's also a lot of fun in small doses, and can even be played with a friend. There are three characters that offer different qualities to the gameplay between range, attack, and other factors, and the goal is to keep moving. Each character has a combo attack, a powerful "crash attack", and panic maneuver (that heals health but lowers rank and becomes harder to activate each time it's used). Skillful playing raises rank which increases your score while getting hit and panicking lowers it, making it a little similar to "God Hand" in the scoring regard (due to multipliers and scaling difficulty).
There are also several difficulties which affect enemy A.I., damage, and things of that nature... on standard difficulties, your combo attack can overcome most encounters, but on higher difficulties, you really need to coordinate your combo and power attacks and take advantage of your surroundings. Most attacks have a visual warning cue (enemy flashing) though this isn't always accurate as an enemy can delay an attack or the behavior of the attack can change depending on how far or close the enemy is. The audio/visuals have a funky retro quality to them and the music definitely contributes to the action with most tracks being upbeat with a slightly fast tempo. You can also unlock a Boss Rush mode if you just wanna beat down those pesky bosses and get practice in to do even faster runs and get the best ranks.
Overall, the game is pretty mindless and fun. This is a video of the game in action with the tutorial added to the end. It is currently $10. You can get the game at:
