ActRaiser (Super Famicom) - Birth of the People (Famicom 2A03+163 Cover)
I recently started playing Quintet's debut game, the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo action RPG classic ActRaiser (1990), and I love it to bits. Outside of the epic scenario of a god ridding the world of monsters and populating it with human beings to rebuild civilization and the fun combination of action platforming and city building gameplay, we get another fantastic soundtrack from FM synth master Yuzo Koshiro in his first ever Super Famicom soundtrack. The song that you will most likely hear the most is a little ditty known as Birth of the People, which is the main theme that plays during the city building portions of the game. Its jaunty rhythm and vibrant chords and use of instrument samples have quickly gotten it stuck in my brain and made it an instant favorite with me, so of course I had to make a cover of it. While not perfect, I still am pleased with how I managed to bring together the PSG of the Famicom's 2A03 and some Namco WSG wavetables via the 163 sound expansion for some amazing harmony, and I'm amazed with how I managed to get a good feel for the volume control (for the most part anyway). I hope you guys get a kick out of this one, and be sure to check out ActRaiser if you can, as it's a high recommendation from yours truly (it even got a kickass remake last year). ^w^
