#AD Under Night In Birth 2: Arcade 1CC Max Difficulty, No losses.
Labelled as #AD as I was given a PC Game Key from Keymailer/Arc System Works. This video is not a paid sponsor. This disclaimer is mandatory for UK Content Creators thanks to the ASA.
4 years ago, I played arcade mode on the Switch version of UNDER NIGHT IN BIRTH EXE LATE CL-R, other than paid online subscription and MAYBE minor extra lag on Switch, it was one of the better Switch ports for fighting games.
Lately, I was given a key for the sequel and I thought I should try out arcade mode on max difficulty.
The game heavily reminds me how Street Fighter Alpha 1 transitioned to Street Fighter Alpha 2.. how exactly?
The OST for character themes are mostly identical but with some alterations:
The really catchy Byakuya theme: Beat Eat Nest has a 2nd verse variant.
Voice have been re-recorded that only diehard fans who played of UNI 1 would've noticed it.
The most notable line change for me was Waldstein's headbutt normal as he says a completely different line this time.
There's balance tweaks as well so Waldstein's Dash Grab special used to be projectile invincible only on C which costs EXS meter but the sequel has given projectile invinciblity on A & B which don't use EXS meter.
I don't know the game's balance history anywhere near as well than say SF2, SF4, 5 and 6.
Sprites again mostly identical, all 40 default palettes are usable right away along with 5 custom palettes (big win). The con to using pixels is that Season pass DLC characters will have big gaps. First one will be out August 2024, then February 2025 and then the 3rd bonus fighter on August 2025. Sprites are awesome don't get me wrong and will age very well over time.
Characters' announcement commentary are locked behind a paywall (boo), they should've been at least unlockable by beating arcade mode as their respective character to have an extra incentive to play the mode as every character but nope. Still, a lot of gallery art are unlockable with in-game currency that is earned by playing the game.
There's some new mechanics including a new two button special that only works as a smart steer combo ender (this red flash during rock throw with follow-ups as Waldstein for example) and this roll dodge style special called Creeping Edge and Celestial Vorpal State which is rewarding if you have 6 GRD Blocks at the end of a Cycle meaning bigger bonuses.
Fun to play with a very well in-depth tutorial mode/combo missions teaching situations such as high low mixups to corner only combos.
The most deadliest combos require certain conditions and matchup knowledge on knowing when to pull it off.
