Its still a 2D physics sim. The falling behavior as it goes into the pocket is created by adding a vector towards the center of the pocket multiplied by the arcsine of the distance the balls center point is crossed the hole's edge divided by the ball's radius. This simulates the way a real ball would slowly tip into a hole at first and gain speed quickly.
