Most of the games requiring you to write stuff down in order to succeed were pure adventure or role-playing titles. This game not only requires you to log all sorts of details as you go along on paper, but is also not really much of a game to begin with, more-so a snazzy wireframe engine that the developers didn't really know what to do with and was made obsolete very soon afterwards.

Additional Information and Corrections:
* This game's now available on GOG! If you wanna grab a copy follow this link: https://www.gog.com/game/echelon/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4

* I actually played a bunch more than just 2 1/2 hours of gameplay, but most of it was off-camera with the intent to start recording again once stuff got interesting... and stuff never did. :P
* Ironically, one of my favourite movies in terms of visuals is Tron and if this game had a lot more to it than just pre-set mountain patterns every so often and rectangular buildings, I might've enjoyed the visual presentation more, but you really do spend a ton of gameplay just staring at the ground moving by... which you can turn off and then just stare at nothing instead.
* The somewhat aggravating part is that you learn all the pirate cyphers pretty quickly, but you still need all the map pieces to decode in order to understand what you're supposed to be doing, and while you can figure things out without ALL of the map pieces, there's a lot of luck involved in finding the right ones to give you the key pieces of information you need. This would actually be much more interesting if the game world was procedurally generated, but it's not, so once you've beaten the game there's ZERO replay value. :/
