This game had the potential to be one of the most technically impressive DOS games ever made, and to an extent it still is, but its excellent gameplay and presentation is marred by frequent glitches and crashes, just like its predecessor but to an even greater degree... all because EA rushed this thing out so they could start making more sports games... :(

Still, the game has a mid-level save feature, so as long as you routinely take advantage of that you can still make ample progress no matter how often the thing brings up DOS4GW exception text. :B

Additional Information and Corrections:

* Here's a link to the Magic Carpet 2 page on GOG if you want to buy a digital download of this game: http://www.gog.com/game/magic_carpet_2_the_netherworlds/?pp=91dfde1d6e005e422f64a59776234f1f4c80b5e4

* Also, for those of you interested in Godus, the game I mentioned Peter Molyneux was working on, you can find out more information about it here, although as I understand it, the game has long since stopped being worked on and its fate is uncertain: http://www.22cans.com

* Doing some more research into the game's release it seems that a big chunk of Europe outside of the UK did indeed get the game in 1995 as well, it wasn't just the UK. It also got reviewed by North American publications at the end of 1995, but I've found no evidence to suggest it was available for sale when it was reviewed. It wouldn't surprise me if it was, EA trying to push it out for Christmas and such, but I haven't been able to find anything to actually confirm that; not even a box shot with a copyright on it, as the only box shots I can find for North American releases are for the Classics release which came quite a bit later. :P

* One thing to keep in mind about the Fire and Lightning castles is that you can upgrade your castle with the regular castle spell without affecting any fire or lightning towers that are already present! However, this only really helps when going from an even-numbered castle level to an odd-numbered one, otherwise the old towers end up away from the new castle boundaries and won't be as useful against monsters.

* I don't actually know how to pronounce "Cymmerian" so I may've gotten it wrong. :P

* There's five secret levels in the game, each of which provide new spells or lots of scrolls for levelling up your powers. To reach them, you simply need to go above and beyond the call of duty in specific levels. Again though, when you enter one of these places, the game instantly takes you there, so it's best to quit the level and save on the world map screen before actually attempting it, just in case the game feels like crashing.
