Not every Windows sequel ended up being awesome and the perfect case-in-point is One Must Fall: Battlegrounds. The original game for DOS was one of the best fighting games ever released on the PC with a ton of features and a ton of gameplay potential. OMF:BG has less features, less robots, steep system requirements for the time, almost zero nostalgia connections with the original game, and even after patching out all of the bugs has some extraordinarily bad design decisions which severely hamper the single-player experience. But, despite all of that, the underlying gameplay isn't all that bad and the graphics and music are extremely good, so it's probably better to play multiplayer than single player. :B

Additional Information and Corrections:

* Here's a link to the One Must Fall: Battlegrounds forums which, as you can see for yourself, are STILL active, although new posts are fairly infrequent: http://omf.justinoakley.com/

* One of the ludicrously stupid design decisions which is worthy of a double-facepalm is the INSTANT you boot the game for your very first time, it auto-loads the Basic Training sequence... before you've even had a chance to review your controls and adjust your video and audio options! It never does it again following if you immediately quit out and go back in but still...

* One feature I didn't elaborate on which is actually kind of neat... almost... is that after you've won a fight against particular characters being controlled by the AI, their "Recon Data" will show up on the character select screen, allowing you to see how they behave when controlled by the AI. The only trick here is that none of the challenges ever let you select from every character available and in fact, the ones you can't select and which don't even show up... are the ones you're about to face, so... yeah, can't even see the recon data when it matters. Good job! :P
