Adopting My Dog Ollie!
hi friends! i was actually supposed to upload a makeup video today but i still feel so incredibly wounded after the results of the presidential election. i didn’t have it in me to get out of bed and film anything or to talk about makeup like nothing in the world had changed when all our worst fears were reaffirmed.
luckily i had this footage from last week and i felt that in one of our moments of deepest despair, it was fitting to upload a video that focused on our loved ones. to all my fellow LGBTQ and POC friends who are as scared and shaken as i am, i love you all. please take care of yourselves and of each other. find power in solidarity.
any additional information that i found important about ollie’s adoption will be written below. thank you for watching and stay safe.
first a little update on how ollie’s doing! he’s only been home for a little less than a week but he’s a super friendly and excited guy. his eating habits and bowel movements have been healthy and he loves the new food i’ve been slowly introducing him to. i’m worried that he’s been showing signs of separation anxiety, but given the hardships he encountered as a stray/shelter dog it’s to be expected. i’ll be watching him closely to decide how to go on about with his training. he’s been doing great so far otherwise :o) a real happy pup! if you guys have any additional info, advice, or product recommendations please tweet me!
here are some resources i found helpful during my adoption.
i used petfinder.com and adoptapet.com to search through a large database of all adoptable pets in my area, not just from shelters but from small rescues as well. it was really convenient to use these sites rather than to limit myself to searching through each shelter individually.
i adopted ollie from the pasadena humane society. i was extremely pleased with my experience there. the animals seem well taken care of and the staff were all extremely professional and caring! i received a pet parenting packet upon adoption that included tons of helpful information and resources with a free general wellness exam and complimentary two week veterinary care, just to name a few. i really felt that they worked hard to provide new parents with every resource they could possibly need, all in the hopes to provide better and loving homes for their pets!
a few days after his adoption, i took ollie to petsmart and just so happened to strike up a conversation about him with an employee. i mentioned that ollie was a recently adopted pet and was given an adoption starter kit coupon book that included tons of great deals and freebies for both dogs and cats. although i personally don’t see many brands at petsmart that i’m interested in purchasing from for my dog, i can see how this kit could be extremely helpful for others and especially those who have a harder time with their income. the gesture itself was extremely kind and i wholeheartedly appreciated it!
i plan to eventually make a video about my favorite eco-friendly, cruelty free, and all around conscious consumer friendly dog products. i’ve been doing day and night research about every possible aspect of what my dog will be eating and using, and i’ve come upon some really great products that i can’t wait to share with fellow dog owners and lovers! thanks so much for reading up until this point and following our journey. i’m endlessly excited for our future together :o)
