Advanced Flight Tutorials | Standard Arrival Routes (STAR) and Initial Approachs (IAP) | Lesson 20
With an understanding of IFR routes, Aerodrome Charts and, since the last lesson, Standard Instrument Departure (SID) charts, this lesson focuses on the other side of a flight, in the form of Standard Arrival Routes (STAR), that bring an aircraft safely in from a transition point to a fix near an airport. After that, we take a look at an IAP - An Instrument Approach Procedure, which takes over from a STAR when it ends, and brings an aircraft all the way in to a FAP or FAF - Final Approach Point/Fix, at which point instrument approach charts take over for the final phase.
