Advanced V.G. 2 [PS1] - play as Material in Normal Mode
This is a play-through using Material in Normal Mode in the PS1 game Advanced Variable Geo 2. Read on below for more information...
Material is the penultimate boss in the Story Mode of this game. She is an unlockable playable character, but she cannot be used in the Normal Mode.
===== About Material =====
Material is a genetically engineered hybrid "super-soldier" unit, created by Miranda. It is programmed to display no emotion. In the prequel game, she was known as K-2. However I am not sure whether they are the same character or not.
Gameplay-wise, Material is a great character. She is a small in size, but her basic stretching punches and acrobatic kicks makes her a deadly combo maker. The Lightening Spear moves and even the Thunder Burst can be combo'd into. Material also has those good jumping basics where they angle down slightly, meaning you can easily get two hits in before you land.
===== Additional Information =====
---- As she normally cannot be selected in Normal Mode, it means that she does not have any win quotes, voice speech, interactions or dialogue in her winning screens and interaction/dialogue scenes in Normal Mode.
---- In her winning screens and dialogue scenes, you'll only get "......".
---- In Normal Mode, her Stage 7 mid-boss and Stage 8 last boss are both Yuka. This is because she has no arcade "story" programmed in. Therefore, you could fight Yuka up to 3 times in Normal Mode!
---- When you complete Normal Mode, she does not have ending. Instead, it just shows her winning screen and quote, and then it will go to the credits.
===== About Advanced V.G. 2 =====
This is a very nice game with good sprite-work, animation and a neat soundtrack. There is a deep Story Mode which focuses on the character Tamao, complete with unique images, anime-like scenes, dialogue text and excellent voice acting from all the characters. The zoom in/zoom out feature during fights is a very nice touch that gives the game a more dramatic look.
Gameplay-wise, with special moves, super moves, ultra moves and a flexible chain combo mechanic, it plays very much like a mix of Street Fighter and an Arc System Works fighting game. It's probably the most similar to Arcana Heart.
