G7 leaders have called on the Taliban to allow the safe passage of Afghans who want to leave the country even after the 31 August deadline.

The date for all international troops to leave Afghanistan was confirmed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday following an emergency meeting of the group of the world's richest countries.

That means British forces will also have to leave in the next week.

The Taliban earlier raised the stakes by saying they would no longer allow Afghans trying to flee to reach the airport.
