Emotional Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan broke down in tears to commemorate retired defender Marcus Adams, who decided to quit football after his bad luck with concussion. Adams, who has played 73 games for the Western Bulldogs and Lions , announced his retirement to teammates and staff on Wednesday after multiple delayed concussions he was trying to recover from. "I'm very sorry that it's gotten to this point," Fagan said. “There is no one more professional than you. "It's you who should be upset, not me!" Marcus Adams enlists coaching assistance in the final game of his career, Round 21 of the 2022 season. Adams was placed on the club's inactive list in January to recover from concussion symptoms and work on his health late last year, but admitted that he knew his retirement was imminent. "It's officially hard to do that," Adams told his teammates on Wednesday. “Even though no part of me wants to let it go, I know it was the right decision for me. "I'm waiting for the time to come when I can feel good enough to start training… unfortunately that hasn't happened for me yet and I don't know if it will." Adams expressed gratitude Lions and Bulldogs while also expressing his heartbreak at having to leave under the circumstances, even as 30-year-old faced setbacks that brought career an early end. "It's hard to know that I won't be a part of it anymore."
