After the Fall | VR playthrough
Apologies for the first level being in 4:3 resolution. It’s a problem with my VR recording.
This game is basically a VR version of left for dead. Once you know this, you will know exactly what to expect. 4 players (real or bots) fighting through hordes of zombies. The controls are very good, and you get a choice of easy reloading or more realistic reloading ( I opted for easy because controls always fail to work when being enveloped by zombies). I tried the default standing controls for the first level, but for some reason, sometimes when I tried to move forward, I would move sideways. This got really annoying and also made me feel sick and gave me a headache. For my second go, I put it in seated mode and used teleport controls. The teleport controls don’t work well with an intense game so I changed back to slick movement controls and they seemed to work properly in a seated position and didn’t make me sick. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t account for my seated position and makes me half my size. I specifically chose the seated controls but the game didn’t make any effort to increase my height. So, it loses a bit of engagement when I walking into people’s crotches.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of mindless swarm shooting, so I didn’t like left for dead that much. I find them a bit of a grind. So, with that, I was trying to blast through this one quickly too.
Unfortunately, I didn’t know how the game was supposed to end. There are clear markers through the game of which level you should choose next. But when I completed the 5th level. These markers stopped and I didn’t know what I was supposed to do next. I went into the level select menu and I had no idea which levels I had already done and which still needed to be done. I spent some more time doing extra levels, but then after some research, I found out that I had already finished the game. You just get told “well done” by an NPC, just like they would at the end of any level, and you don’t get an ending or credits. It’s not explained well at all. You are supposed to continue playing and unlocking weapons and parts, and this is supposed to count as your progress. To me, that’s just 100%ing the game.
So, this video just shows the playthrough of those first 5 levels which have any feedback in dialogue from NPC’s.
It’s a very well-made game and has more levels and weapons than LFD but needs more structure as it feels incomplete.
If you love LFD, you will love this. For me, it’s well made, but not engaging.
