Age of Empires II Definitive Edition Skirmish Matches With Xenoxis Episode 1
So thought i give you some tips on skirmishes in AoE II DE.
1. Scouting is very important for discovering resources, enemy positions and such, remember to guide any animal that you can forage/herd that is tame back to your base remember you scout unit as an area of influence so enemies could take them over.
Sheep, Llamas, Turkeys are some example of foragable animals.
Animals you can hunt range from boars, lions, crocodiles, rinocherous, elephants and more.
Some have more meat then other and generally hunting tends to be quicker then farming.
2. If you wanna rush feudal age learn the cost of things, first off you generally want 21 villagers at least. So you gonna need a few houses remember you start with a certain amount of population and town centers provides a certain amount and houses generally 5 although for some its 10.
Houses is 25 wood, all regular military buildings barracks, stables, archery range is all 175 wood.
In the first age (Dark Age) there is not really any upgrade expect for the villager upgrade making them stronger.
So once you know how much wood you need for buildings remember you need 1-2 i believe dark age buildings before going into feudal age also 500 food.
You can i believe skip the military buildings completely if you build like a mill and then for example a lumber camp.
Since i do believe thoose buildings will count.
Once in feudal age you can upgrade your militas into man at arms but also making the militia line cheaper (everything within that line gets cheaper) Militia/Man At Arms/Longswordsman/Two Handed Swordsman/Champion if i remember correctly.
In Feudal Age you can also get important upgrades for mining camps, mill and lumbercamps, but also recommend you construct a blacksmith (counts for one of the feudal age buildings), your second one in my opinion should be archery range (generally for archery civs or stables generally for cavalry civs) you could ofcourse skip blacksmith and go straight for stables and archery range.
Remember since you construct archery range and stables in this age generally they have no upgrades expect i believe for stables wich should have bloodlines.
3. You dont need siege to kill buildings and in Feudal Age a couple of Scouts can kill villagers pretty easy you could ofcourse try and block them with militia otherwise, keep in mind scouts are generally only food usually 75 food.
4. If you wanna make it to castle age you gonna need 800 food and 200 gold. Remember to get wheelbarrow the first tier and the longer range for buildings it is LoS range but also its attack range. Remember more villagers inside town center makes it stronger.
Remember to push any advantage and harras enemy economy with your scouts and man at arms.
If you reach castle age go for upgrades right away generally its worth stockpiling some stuff.
Remember 20 Longswordmen can easily handle a towncenter.
Remember the enemy wont stay in town center forever either so if you kill of surrounding buildings out of range of towncenter and you start attacking it the villagers will feel sometimes forced to go out to create like a house because of being supplied blocked.
You can start collecting lots of gold and stone already in dark age if you want to but that can generally make aging up slower depending on how quick you are ofcourse.
I believe its entirely possible to do like a 7 min or less feudal age timing.
Now if you stockpile resorces and do a slightly slower feudal you can rush the two needed buildings right away in feudal age and then go straight into castle age that requires some planning though.
Remember unit counter.
Skirmishers tends to counter archer unless your enemy fields a criticall mass of archer since if they have tons of archers and they all focus fire then things can die in one volley ofcourse if you get to many the volley will be overkill and then its better to attack move.
5. Dont forget Stand Your Ground since your units generally start in aggresive stance sadly i believe there is no way to change this before the unit gets trained.
N button i believe for stan your ground since if they chase an enemy in aggresive you could end up loosing a lot of units that way.
