Alan Wake 2! Only Victims And Monsters - Halloween Retro 2023 (Part 1 of 5)
Alan Wake 2 has arrived just in time for our Halloween game marathon. There were a lot of changes from the original, including a more modern over-the-shoulder camera, an inventory system, and an open world. You play as two main characters this time around: Saga Anderson, an FBI detective investigating the mysterious murders at Bright Falls, and Alan Wake, who continues to battle his way through the dark place. If you're behind on the story, you'll have a lot of catching up to do, but the game will still explain as much as it can, just not all at once. The game has a lot of detective work using your "Mind Place," where you piece together evidence and draw conclusions to progress through the game. Alan is also able to change the environment by storing light in his special angel lamp. You can switch between characters and progress the story in any order you want. The cutscenes and voice acting are amazing, as expected, with some really cool live action scenes that blend in well with the game. The story is HUGE. I also appreciated the puzzles, which can be challenging with very little handholding. I didn't enjoy the combat as much as the original, it definitely takes a backseat and the jump scares got a little annoying over time, but this game was very ambitious. You can tell a lot of planning went into it if you're a fan of many Remedy games. This is part 1 of our playthrough.
