Alan Wake 2 | Return 1: Invitation (Ep.01)
The original Alan Wake released in 2010. I played a demo for it, but put the full game off because I had "more interesting" games to play. I kept it installed, though, planning to pick it up later. Fast forward two weeks and I fancied a quick bash on it, so I booted it up again.
11 hours later I'd finished the main game in one sitting and was about the start the Special Episode when I realised I had to go to work soon.
The original game isn't without its flaws, mechanics-wise, but in terms of storytelling, meta narrative, meta-narrative INFORMING the ACTUAL narrative, and other clever tricks writers of thrillers and horror use, this game was top notch. For a guy with a Masters Degree in Creative Writing, it was an interesting tour-de-force of literary techniques adapted with general success into the videogame space.
This is all to say that I was VERY looking forward to playing the sequel, especially after Remedy's "Control" brought Alan Wake into their wider "RemedyVerse" with that game's Altered World Events.
It's been a while, now, since I played Control, and even longer since I played Alan Wake, but I ensured I blanked and blocked everything I could on social media so as not to spoil anything for myself. I'm going in almost completely blind, except for a couple things I explain at the start.
Anyway, nobody reads video descriptions so here we go!
