As with the Xbox release preceeding it, Alan Wake on PC suffers from shallow gameplay as well as a repetitive and linear structure which ultimately lacks both ambition and originality, but the experience of playing the game can nonetheless be quite satisfying and immersive due to Remedy's knack for creating atmospheric, realistic-looking environments and evoking a genuine sense of place (the latter being a far trickier, more artistic achievement than the former).
