Alfred Tries To Play: Spy Bros: Pipi & Bibi's DX (PC)
1This game is an enhanced remaster of the 1991 arcade game Pipi & Bibi's which up until now has never had a home release. Perhaps that's because the original arcade game was somewhat notorious for it's *ahem* saucy pictures of pin-up girls that appeared between each stage (thankfully replaced here with new images that feel more appropriate to the game).
(I would like to disclose quickly that my interest in this game is because I am a fan of the work of developers Toaplan, as evidenced by me earlier playing some of their other games such as Twin Cobra (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgCQYStNORA) and Grind Stormer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8P5ymRPm5lM) as well as me possessing both Toaplan Arcade collections on Evercade)
But as there was nothing else particularly objectionable in the game, what's left in this family-friendly remaster is an addictive single screen platformer in the style of Elevator Action where you must set a number of bombs at computer terminals, then escape the stage once all are set.
To defend yourself against enemies, you have a laser beam weapon that stuns them or drops them to the next floor below. You have to be strategic about using it- if you drop too many enemies down to the next floor, it will be harder to get past them, so sometimes, you just want to stun them quickly merely to get past them.
It is a really fun game that features all the fun elements of a Toaplan game- a charming graphical style, great music and fun, if rather difficult gameplay. And this game is amazing value at only Β£5.79 or $7.99, so I would recommend buying this game soon!
