Alien: Isolation | Part 19: Premature Backtracking
One aspect of this game's marketing was that "the Alien learns as you play." Supposedly, if you hide in lockers too often then the Alien will start checking lockers if it thinks you're nearby. The same goes for the flamethrower - the first few times you use it, the Alien will scramble up the nearest vent to get away. Eventually it starts taking more bursts of fire to scare it off.. and then it stops being a deterrent altogether. I hope I'm not getting close to that point already..

Alien: Isolation is a first person survival horror game developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA. Set fifteen years after the events of the original Alien film, the plot centers around Amanda Ripley as she tries to uncover the truth about her mother's disappearance, and ends up facing off against the same terrifying monsters that separated them.
Hope is dangerous. Amanda had long since given up hope that she would find out why her mother never made it back to Earth for her eleventh birthday. But like clockwork, another Weyland-Yutani puppet shows up to pull on its last remaining thread. This time, the usual song-and-dance is a little different: A cargo ship had apparently found the flight recorder of the Nostromo - her mother's ship - and brought it to a freeport station slated for decommission..
