Alien Vendetta (2002) - map 30: Point Dreadful (100% UV - modded)
My opinion of this map is that it could have been worse, like map 30 of Hell Revealed, which is an RNG-fest. But it also could have been much better. It's too basic for my taste, just another "too convencional" Icon of Sin map. I don't even hate the IoS, like some people, but if a mapper is going to use it, they better innovate a bit with it. But again, at least it's nothing too annoying, like map 30 of HR.
Conclusion on Alien Vendetta:
Yep, it's still one of my favorite wads. There's just something special about it and, in my case, it's not even nostalgia, since I played this wad a few years ago. It's just a nice combination of slaughter and adventure/exploration. The difficulty is not too high, despite this wad's fame, and it's just perfect for a medium-tier player like myself. Might be a bit boring for better players, though.
The midi replacements are (mostly) excellent and a great addition do this wad. Also, Doom 64 weapons mod is really fun and balanced and adds a bit of variety to gameplay, without straying too far from vanilla.
