moving right along to the second episode of alien vendetta, featuring a much more techbase-heavy presentation than the first episode. i think this might be my favorite stretch of alien vendetta; we'll see if that opinion actually holds up on a second playthrough. this is a reasonably gentle introduction to this section with not too many enemies... and ELEVEN secrets??? i think that's the most secrets of any map in the wad! there definitely did not need to be that many secrets. compared to earlier maps, this section of the wad tends to be less linear, and the enemy composition definitely favors the hitscanners over other types of enemies. for the most part the combat doesn't get too tricky here. the major exception is the yellow key room with a dozen chaingunners in pillboxes, or it would be if there wasn't a secret to defang that ambush that i totally forgot i was supposed to clear out first. the room before that also has a pretty dense collection of monsters, which can either be a chaotic scramble to pick off hitscanners, like it was the first time i played this, or you can just force them to all push up against the door you came through and chew through them pretty routinely. i also had to go back for the super shotgun at the start; there's another super shotgun shortly thereafter so i didn't even really think it would be missing. this winds up being a pretty fun map even if it mostly just helps smooth the transition into the techbase maps to come.
