21The 2024 Lucid Air isn't just raising the bar for electric vehicles - it's smashing it to pieces. This all-new luxury EV from the California startup is so far ahead of the curve, it makes even the likes of the Tesla Model S and Mercedes EQS feel behind the times.\nLet's start with the numbers. The Air Pure model boasts an EPA-estimated range of 410 miles, making it the longest-range EV on sale today by a huge margin. But the Air isn't just a one-trick range pony – it also delivers scorching straight-line performance. The Grand Touring model hits 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, while the new tri-motor Sapphire is an absolute missile, cracking that sprint in under 2.0 seconds.\nOn the road, the Air feels every bit as special as those stats suggest. The instant torque response is addictive, the handling is composed and planted, and the cabin is library-quiet at a cruise. But it's the driving range that really blows you away, eliminating any trace of range anxiety.\nThe Air's cabin is just as impressive, with a low cowl and sprawling glass roof providing an airy, open ambiance. Material quality is excellent, from the real aluminum and wood trim to the supple leather upholstery. And the three-screen digital interface, while occasionally laggy during our test, looks ultra-modern.\nThere are a few negatives, like some cheap plastic trim that doesn't befit the Air's six-figure price tag. And the tires on our Grand Touring tester produced quite a bit of road noise. But those are minor gripes in an otherwise stellar overall package.\nIt's still early days for Lucid, but the 2024 Air represents a brilliant first effort – and stakes a legitimate claim as the new EV benchmark in terms of range, performance, and luxury.
