182024 Mercedes GLC Coupe Doubles Down On Style Over Substance
\nThe redesigned 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe arrives with a sleeker look, more tech, and an electrified powertrain, but it still sacrifices practicality in the name of style. As the coupe-styled counterpart to the standard GLC SUV, the new GLC Coupe adopts a heavily raked roofline that gives it an undeniably sportier appearance, though at the expense of interior space.
\nDistinguishing the GLC Coupe are its unique front and rear styling treatments that lend the compact crossover a more aggressive demeanor. Up front, the GLC sports Mercedes' latest design language with slim LED headlights flanking the brand's oversized grille with its prominent three-pointed star emblem. Along the sides, the roofline arcs dramatically towards the rear, culminating in a liftback-style liftgate and full-width LED taillights.
\nDespite its sleeker profile, Mercedes says the new GLC Coupe actually has a bit more cargo space than its predecessor. The rear seats still lack the sprawl-out room of the standard GLC, however. Up front, occupants are treated to Mercedes' latest MBUX infotainment system with a large 11.9-inch center touchscreen oriented vertically – a far more elegant design than the previous iteration's tacked-on displays.
\nPowering the GLC 300 Coupe is a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to a mild-hybrid system and nine-speed automatic transmission. With a combined 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from the gasoline engine and electric motor, the GLC 300 should offer plenty of pep. An AMG-tuned GLC 43 Coupe with around 400 hp is also expected. 4Matic all-wheel-drive is standard across the range.
\nPricing starts at $58,150 for the GLC 300 4Matic Coupe, representing a significant $6,150 premium over the standard GLC 300 SUV. That's a steep ask for a vehicle that's less spacious and likely no more fun to drive. But as Mercedes knows all too well, for many shoppers, prioritizing fashion over function is worth the compromise.
\nAs before, the GLC Coupe's primary appeal lies in its curvaceous, coupe-like silhouette.
