All Your Base Are Belong to US by Harold Goldberg -- Video Game Book Club
This book was published in 2011, so a lot of the problems I had with it are due to when I read it. Harold did go into great detail as he was recounting the history of video games. He starts with Pong, which was a bit strange. I would have thought he would start with the computer games in the 50s and 60s, but the book doesn’t do that.
Games are used to tell the story of video games as opposed to hardware. This did create a few minor problems for me. The major one was how Harold seemed to use the games he found interesting. This makes the book at bit more personal, but it doesn’t really follow the history as well as it could.
I think this is a good book. There were just a few moments where it annoyed me.
