Ceres fulfills the original requirements for designation as a planet, but the newest rule that disqualified Pluto also applies to Ceres, relegating it to Dwarf Planet status. The Dawn mission surveyed Ceres until a few years ago, and the probe remains in orbit around the dwarf planet.

Other asteroids in this scene are larger and more close together than in reality; however, Ceres has temporarily captured asteroids into unstable orbits around it, which is what I was trying to depict here.
