French automaker Renault is breathing new life into the iconic Renault 5 Alpine, a classic hot hatch first unveiled way back in 1976, well before the Volkswagen Golf GTI made its debut. Although not much information is available on the power output of the A290_β, the concept vehicle boasts torque vectoring and a multi-link rear suspension, which is already confirmed for the standard Renault 5 and will be standard for the sporty variant. The vehicle is designed with a stiffer suspension system, three different driving modes to choose from, and four-piston Brembo brakes that are borrowed from the mid-engine A110 coupe.

But wait, there’s more! It’s important to note that the production-ready A290_β won’t be the only exciting release from Renault. There will also be a GT-X Over crossover and an electric A110 replacement, which was co-developed with Lotus. The A290_β is set to be released in 2024, and it will be produced in the Douai facility by the Renault Group using the CMF-B EV platform.

The A290_β concept is based on the Renault 5 concept that was unveiled earlier in 2021, but with a stronger focus on its sporty side. The vehicle’s classic quad lights and vertical taillights are inspired by the A470 endurance race car. It sports a powder-white finish with black hoods and roofs, along with forged carbon surfaces and blue inserts on the lower part of the body.

Despite its compact size, the Alpine A290_β is equipped with large 20-inch wheels with an unconventional design featuring a square cut in the center. These center-lock alloys proudly display the French flag and are wrapped in Michelin-developed tires, which will also be provided for the production model. Although the final version of the vehicle won’t be quite as radical as the concept, it will undoubtedly give the Abarth 500e a run for its money.

The electric hot hatch measures in at 72.8 inches wide and 58.2 inches tall. It features a three-seat interior reminiscent of the McLaren F1, with the driver seated in the center and slightly ahead of two passengers nestled in carbon fiber bucket seats. The minimalist interior features an angular steering wheel inspired by this year’s LMP2 A470 and F1 A523 race cars.

In conclusion, Renault’s upcoming releases are sure to get car enthusiasts excited. From the sporty A290_β to the GT-X Over crossover and the electric A110 replacement, Renault is set to make a major splash in the automotive world. With the A290_β sporting torque vectoring, multi-link rear suspension, and a stiffer suspension setup, it’s clear that Renault is putting a strong emphasis on the vehicle’s performance capabilities. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this exciting lineup!
