Finally a sub-2 hour time. This seed was relatively straightforward/generous for the most part until the medallion hunt, however I got bogged down a ton by stubbornly refusing to do the front of Hyrule Castle Escape. I lost about 13 minutes after clearing Misery Mire checking bonk rocks, hammer pegs, bumper cave, graveyard ledge, king's tomb, catfish, pyramid, ALL of ice palace, and even green pendant turn-in before finally going back to escape to pick up my go mode quake medallion.
This isn't the first time that skipping the front of escape has hurt me so I think I should come up with some better personal rules for when to do the front of escape:
- If getting a weapon in first 3 chests, or tier 1 tree pull = bombs, do front of escape right then and there
- If no money for zora, do escape before south shore checks in hope of getting more money?
- If finished south shore checks and we don't have anything that points us in a particular direction, do escape
- If have the mirror and we're in east dark world, do pyramid into escape
I knew escape had 4 items guaranteed so it had more items than ice palace...I should have gone to escape first. There's no reason to believe that it was more likely to be in ice palace, and ice palace takes longer to full clear.
Other than that, I made some good plays, including splash delete fake flippers to get fire rod from zora ledge early, and knowing where to pull bombs from under rocks with power glove. Going to death mountain to get fighter sword from old man before mini-moldorm cave ended up working out too (I was short on bombs). Dipping into SW to get cane of somaria was a toss-up for me and I'm glad I did it as that probably saved a ton of time. I died to blind twice but managed a good fighter sword only kill the third time by playing it safe; glad I pulled that off. I even correctly guessed that SP was the right crystal dungeon to go visit rather than IP, but unfortunately it didn't end up saving me time in the end since I missed quake. I also took a death to trinexxx after some silly mistakes, but luckily had saved at laser bridge just in case, so it didn't set me back too much at all. GT took a while but that was just plain luck. Getting silvers and half-magic along the climb made for a very stress-free ganon fight.
