7I always got a faster battle by using the missile and bombs combo but I couldn't take out another cycle until I found that the bombs overlap each other and don't deal full damage, they do it if you explode them by firing missiles but the position of the bombs is really important too.
Also it's possible to get another missile to hit the boss by jumping and firing at the last moment, creating a sort of doppler effect. This was added for both strats.
