An Automatic Mario Level Created by Some Guy [10] Fun with Glitches
A Super Mario World level that I created in which you don't have to touch the controls at all. This level makes use of a variety of glitches and other oddities, some of which I recently learned about, or discovered for myself as I was making this level!
No custom sprites or GFX were used in the making of this level.
Custom block used:
Teleport block (blue moon)
Level musics:
Cave Story - Outer Wall - "Moonsong"
Touhou 6 - Cirno's Theme - "Beloved Tomboyish Daughter"
Arcana SNES - Draven's Valley Pass
Salamander (Life Force NES) - Starfield (Stage 2)
Donkey Kong Land GB - Boss Battle
P-switch music:
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Spade/N-spade Game
(Musics acquired at SMW Central.)
Some of the more notable glitches: (Timestamps of where the glitch first appears in the video are included.)
(0:09) "Plantaporting" as raocow calls it: If Mario falls off the bottom of the screen and there's a wall springboard in the same spot near the top of the screen, Mario will warp up there.
(1:36) Wiggler launcher: I found this one myself recently. If a Wiggler gets jammed in a rising and falling pipe for a moment, it launches into the stratosphere! Then it comes back down a few seconds later.
(2:25) Wiggler scoring glitch: This one should be well-known. When stomping multiple enemies without touching the ground, Wigglers don't cap at 1-up. It continues with 2-up, 3-up, 5-up (with glitched graphics), then a bunch of glitchy displays afterwards that give you varying amounts of coins and points, often in huge numbers!
(2:59) It's raining koopas: Another one I recently discovered. If a Bullet Shooter sprite is placed on the left edge of a single-screen room, a ton of koopas may suddenly spawn in the upper-left of that room when Mario enters. After some of the koopas leave or are killed, the Bullet Shooter will start firing normally.
(3:06) Bonus game coin block glitch 1: Be careful where you place coin blocks in the Switch Palace FG/BG tileset, since they get used in a 1-up bonus game in that tileset. If placed improperly, odd things may happen, like having a whole row of brown blocks suddenly appearing.
(3:24) Bonus game coin block glitch 2: I just discovered this one as I was creating this level. This one's tricky to describe, but I'll try: If the afore-mentioned coin blocks are placed too high or too low in the level, when one is hit, it causes Mario to imitate the P-balloon power up, except it never wears off (even if you're hit or grab a power up), and you can't control it, so Mario is moving only on inertia. It does, however, end upon hitting a teleport block and going to another room (thankfully).
(4:11) Bubble glitch: I found this one a long time ago in Forest of Illusion 3 of the original game. If a thrown shell or Bob-omb hits a bubble, it'll likely hit multiple times as it passes through the bubble, giving the proper points/1-ups for each hit. After the projectile leaves the bubble, the bubble pops normally, releasing whatever it was holding unharmed.
(4:42) Vertical level berry glitch: I just found this one while creating this level, too! Berries don't work well in vertical levels. Yoshi might not eat the berry where it appears to be, but somewhere else in the same room, Yoshi may eat a berry out of nowhere, leaving behind a green square. What's more, the berry's still there, so it can be eaten again! If Yoshi's mouth continues to overlap that green square, he'll just keep eating the same berry over and over!
(4:41) Hurry up! Music tempo glitch: If the timer rises back above 100 after the time warning occurs, the warning can occur again, speeding the music up even more. This can occur repeatedly, causing the music to reach insane speeds! However, the tempo might correct itself at certain points in some songs, or if the music changes.
There are a few other glitches and oddities in this level, too. If you don't quite understand something that happens, let me know and I'll try to explain it if I can.
Feel free to comment, but just know that I dislike profanity. Any comments containing F-bombs and/or S-bombs will be thrown into the garbage! (In other words, they'll be deleted.)
