Way back in 1995 Quicktime had something called Quicktime VR which allowed for viewing 360 degrees imagery. Of course no consumer had the hardware to actually make these themselves so the imagery was mostly consumed from CD-ROMS or online downloads.

Still pretty cool to see how much and how little has changed over the decades of us using computers with GUIs be it Windows, Macintosh or Linux/Unix machines.

QuickTime VR (also known as QTVR) is an image file format developed by Apple Inc. for QuickTime, and discontinued along with QuickTime 7. It allows the creation and viewing of VR photography, photographically-captured panoramas, and the exploration of objects through images taken at multiple viewing angles.
