An Example Of A Well Written Villain
Most games present a villain that will be the center of attention for the entire game. A singular threat that forces everyone to drop what they are doing and focus all their attention on defeating it. But one of my favorite RPG's does it differently. They introduce a villain in the very beginning that only serves to introduce you to the game. And once you have a handle on the worlds politics and interests, he dies. His death allows you to focus on the real struggle at the heart of the game, and not just a single villain.
