There's a debug mode in Shining Force!? Shining Force is one of the best games for Sega Genesis. Good enough that it was one of the few reasons why you might buy a Sega over an SNES back in the '90s. It's a tactics RPG that I was rather fond of, and I just found out there's a level select feature which is pretty unique for an RPG!

Start the game and at any point, hold A, B, C, and START on controller 2 and reset the console. When the SEGA logo appears, release those buttons and hold UP on the second controller. Now press Start on controller 1 until you get past the title screen to the part where that little elf girl (Simone) starts talking.

Now release all buttons on the second controller. You don't need it from this point on.

Now you can either start a new game OR continue a save file, but once you get to the point where Simone says her last line of dialogue, you'll have three options. In other words, once you're at the point where hitting another button would start the actual game, you have the following choices:

Press and hold A to bring up the Battle Test which is essentially a level select code.

Press and hold B to bring up the Chapter Select which will bring you to the beginning of any of the game's chapters.

Press and hold C to see the game's ending.

Furthermore, if you play any battle using these debug features, you can hold A, B, and C after performing an attack, and you will instantly win the battle.
