You can access a debug mode in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse for the NES by using a simple Game Genie code! Enter the code KVEVPYEP and start up a new game, and you'll be taken to a debug screen where you can choose your characters and what level you start on!

The debug screen has a very simple setup. You'll see four values in a column. The top value determines which level you start on, but the only *valid* numbers you can choose here range from 00 to 0E.

The next two values basically determine which checkpoint and screen you start on, and typically these values only work if you enter a value from 00 to 04.

The last value determines which characters will be in your party! 00 starts you with Trevor alone. 01 Starts you with Sypha and Trevor in reserve. 02 Starts you with Grant and Trevor in reserve. 03 Starts you with Alucard and Trevor in reserve.

Now if you happen to select some values for level, checkpoint, and screen that the game can't "handle," you'll often be dumped into a glitched out area where you may instantly die. But it's not really a big deal, since you'll go straight to the Game Over screen and you can choose to continue, which will usually take you to a legitimate level.

Also note that when using the debug features, scoring your first 100 points will earn you an extra life!

I found out about this Debug Mode code from The Cutting Room Floor, which has a lot more information about how it works - https://tcrf.net/Castlevania_III:_Dracula%27s_Curse
