Malastare, situated in the Malastare system of the Mid Rim along the Hydian Way, was a lush, forested planet renowned for its abundant reserves of Malastarian fuel, a hazardous resource exclusive to its terrain. Despite being the native world of the Dug species, representation in the Galactic Senate fell to the Gran, who had established colonies on Malastare. Ainlee Teem, serving as Malastare's senator, found himself thrust into the spotlight during the Supreme Chancellor election amidst the Invasion of Naboo.

In the turbulent era of the Clone Wars, Malastare became a battleground between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, fiercely contested for control over its vital fuel reserves. The conflict inadvertently awakened the formidable Zillo Beast, a creature of legendary proportions, which the Republic ultimately subdued. This event prompted the Dug Council to enter into a treaty with the Republic, granting access to their coveted fuel reserves in exchange for security and protection.

Malastare resided within its eponymous system, nestled in the Dustig sector of the Mid Rim. Serving as a pivotal crossroads, it bridged the Hydian Way hyperspace route, connecting it to ZeHeth and Darkknell, while also linking to the Biox Detour, facilitating travel between Malastare and the Ring of Kafrene mining colony.

Cloaked in dense forests, Malastare's heart harbored substantial fuel reserves, prompting the indigenous Dugs to clear swathes of land for the construction of refineries crucial to their economy. The exhilarating spectacle of podracing flourished as a beloved pastime on the vibrant world of Malastare.
