Animaniacs (Genesis): Intro & Tutorial Stage: Warner Bros. Studios Lot
Happy 30th Anniversary to Animaniacs!
To commemorate this milestone for one of the most beloved cartoons of the 1990s, I decided to playthrough a couple of its very first games!
This is of the Sega Genesis game. Both it and the Super Nintendo version were made by Konami, and this version happens to be the very first Konami game that I have EVER played from them.
----------
The intro of the game has the Warner Brothers and Warner Sister, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, introduce the player into their video game.
Wakko asks what even is a video game, which leads to Yakko putting on his smarty slacks and telling his siblings how important this is to happen to them and to entertainment in general. Wakko has to "translate" to Dot what Yakko was yakking about.
----------
In the proper start of the game, the Warners show off the surrondings of their water tower home, none other than the Warner Bros. Studio Lot, itself. They are very excited to see what kind of adventures they'll have in this game.
That's when Yakko had an idea!
The Warners have been wanting to open up a hip pop-culture shop, but they first need to prep it with some movie props. So they're gonna raid several studios filming their films, and take those props for their shop.
Let's see the wacky rascals get it done!
----------
In the Sega Genesis version of this game, each Warner has at least one different ability, and without using words, the game's Studio Lot stage kinda has you figure out what they can do.
- Yakko can push and pull crates, which can be used as steps to get to higher places. He also has a paddleball for harassing that pesky guard Ralph with. In this stage, you use Yakko for a crate.
- Wakko has his mallet. He doesn't get to use it on baddies often, but somehow it can be used to light fuses for things like bombs and cannons, so the Warners can continue their progress. There's one bomb here he can light and blow up against a wall.
- Dot blows cute kisses. Her flying kisses can make certain characters either move or stay in place because they fall in love with her cuteness. You blow a kiss at one of the main dogs: Runt, and he ends up hopping out of the way because he immediately fell in love with his cat friend Rita.
Much of this game's puzzles will involve figuring out which Warner is the right one for the job at a moment's notice.
Try reading the Warners' lines in their voices. It's really fun!
