Anto RetroGamer Plays: Sonic Chaos - Sonic & Tails in Japan - for the SEGA Game Gear. This is a 'Perfect' walkthrough of Sonic Chaos, which means collecting all six Chaos Emeralds for the game's best ending, without taking any damage. This walkthrough is divided into six parts for each zone, with two short Acts, a Special Stage and a boss Act.

The Special Stage system is quite unique in Sonic Chaos; obtaining 100 rings at any point in the stage, which this game has a lot of. Not only does this give an extra life, but automatically ends the stage. There are only five Special Stages, despite their been six Chaos Emeralds. Robotnik drops his Chaos Emerald, only is Sonic has collected the other five before defeating him. While many stages are easy to collect 100 rings, I will be limiting Special Stages to only one per Zone for a more streamlined walkthrough. Just bear in mind that Tails cannot enter Special Stages in Sonic Chaos, and will get the 'Bad Ending' by default.

Sonic Chaos, SEGA Game Gear - Stage 3: Sleeping Egg Zone. It's even easier then Gigapolis Zone, in my opinion. The main threat is the bottomless pit that extends across the whole map. Simply stay on the high path, and this is a non-issue. Sleeping Egg Zone is pretty light on danger, and is known for it's breakable blocks which can broken through with a Spin Dash. In fact, it's very easy to speed-run through this Zone. While it is possible to get 100 rings on Act 1, it's much easier to do on Act 2, which can easily be done in under 30 seconds.

Sonic Chaos' third Special Stage introduces Game Gear Sonic's bizarre desire to tubes. This is actually really easy, once you know what you are doing. It may seem like you are in an endless loop, but you're not. You don't even have to move, until you see a Chaos Emerald in a room to the right. Just hold up, and you'll switch paths into it, and just walk into it. If you do not do this, you will head all the way back to the start of the Special Stage, but time is pretty lenient anyway.

BOSS: Bouncy Bot Robot - No seriously, that's it English name, although why they didn't stick to the Japanese: Hopping Egg Vulcan is a mystery. Does what it says on the tin, it bounces around on a spring, which can make it difficult to damage when also shooting projectiles across the screen. Damage is only registered by bouncing on Bouncy Bot Robot's head. Taking this thing head on is a dangerous endeavour , and will rely on ring retention to stay alive.

There is of course a much easier way around defeating Bouncy Bot Robot: by ironically bouncing on it. This is tricky to get down, as you have to make a well-timed jump as it descends. Once you are on top, simply bounce on it's head repeatedly to win. You may have adjust Sonic when doing this, as you may end up bouncing on it's side, which doesn't register as a hit. As long as you don't cancel this, it won't be able to hurt you anyway.
